Aberdeen airport was opened on 38th July 1934. During the war and for some time after it was used by the RAF. After 1948, it ran a number of civil flights and operated flights to the Northern Isles of Scotland. During the expansion of the oil industry in the North Sea, the airport found itself an important link for workers and engineers. It expanded its helicopter services, which still exists today and it is one of the largest heliports in the world.
In 1975 BAA took over the running of the airport from the CAA. Over the following years the terminal was developed with a new depature lounge and in 1998 a new terminal (Broomfield) was opened. Between 2000 and present day, a new 25 year was put in place to continue the development of the airport and the surrounding area.
