Bristol Airport Information
Bristol Airport is the main servicing airport for the South West of England and South Wales. 4.6 million passengers a year pass through the Bristol airport terminal to over 90 different destinations. The airport was opened in 1930 by Prince George and was the official birthplace of Concorde. After early success, the airport was used during the war to fly troops and important national figures in and out of the country. After 1948, it was not used to great effect and was in danger of being closed.
The new airport terminal was built in 2000 to increase the capacity through airport and the number of passengers it could handle. This of course improved communications links with the South West and the rest of the world.
In 2004, Bristol International was awarded the OAG Worldwide Marketing Award and was recognised as one of the Best airport in the UK when it was nominated in this category by Travel Weekly. Expected growth will have Bristol airport servicing 12 million passengers per annum by 2030.
